Here are three more books to decide from....
Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia A. McKillip (copyright 2004)
Deep inside a palace on the edge of the world, the orphan Nepenthe pores over books in the royal library, translating their languages and learning their secrets. Now sixteen, she knows little of the ouside world--except for the documents that traders and travelers bring her to interpret.
Then, during the coronation of the new Queen of Raine, a young mage gives Nepenthe a book that has defied traslation. Written in a language of thorns, it speaks to Nepenthe's soul--and becomes her secret obsession. And, as the words escape the brambles and reveal themselves, Nepenthe finds her destiny entwined with thtat of the young queen's. Sooner than she thinks, she will have to choose between the life that she has led and the life she was born to lead...

Le Morte D'Avalon by J. Robert King (copyright 2003)
The third volume of J. Robert King's critically acclaimed Arthurian triptych focuses on a woman of Avalon--Morgan Le Fey.
Part female Hamlet, part mystical Lady Macbeth, this daughter of a slain king must becaome an Arthurian Joan of Arc for all women when her position in society and royal lineage place her in direct opposition to all that Arthur must accomplish...not just for Camelot but for all mankind.
**********************************************************
Vision of Light by Judith Merkle Riley (copyright 1989)
Set in England during the 14th Century, Margaret of Ashbury, an unforgettable heroine who resemblea a contemporary woman in spirit and thoughts. Young, wealthy, twice married, Margaredt has a modest enough ambition: she wishes to write a book. But this is 1355, and the notion of a woman wanting to record her experiences and thoughts is not just arrogant, it is possibly heretical.
Brother Gregory, a starving scribe, decides to take on the unseemly task of chronicling her life. As she narrates her life story to Gregory, we discover a woman of unusual resourcefulness who uses medicine and herbs and has been acquitted of witchcraft. Most astonishing is her Mystic Union--a vision of light--that illuminates her soul and endows her with a miraculous gift.

I am leaning towards Le Morte D'Avalon.
Let me know by Sunday night or Monday morning at the latest...
I'll then post book # 2.
Happy Reading... [/font:4e64630019] _________________

| I didn't know Patricia McKillip had a new book out. I definitely want to check that one out. I love her books. This is so weird. This is the first time I have ever found people who read the same books I do. My hubby hates to read and most people aren't into fantasy type books so I'm always the outsider around here. I'm really glad I found you! |

Dearest Heather,
It must be fate...or the guiding of the fae...there is a reason that you found us...
I am so glad that you are a fellow reader...knowledge is so important...in any way that we can find it...and reading is the best way I know how to gain that knowledge.
I have been an avorious reader since the age of 4...and I haven't stopped since. I feel sometimes that I can't get enough...I sometimes read a book in a day ... my hubby is jealous because it takes him about a week and a half to get through the same amount.
Suggestion for the hubby...why not start him off on C.S. Lewis or J. R.R. Tolkien...they are great writers that have good books no matter what genre you like.
So do I have a vote for Ms. McKillip's book for you
Let me know [/font:eb2913af1a] _________________

| Definitely a vote for Ms. McKillip's book. I think my hubby is hopeless. Watching the movies is about as far as he'll go. The Tolkien books did get my 13 year old son to start reading alot. So they did do someone else good. I have almost his whole collection. I'm am SO glad the fae have directed me to this site. |

Alas, I will try to search for those books at the library. I am a very very very slow reader. In the future I might look for something like maybe read so many chapters a week and then when the weekend bounces around comment on them. I am one of those who read like seven books at a time. Sorry.
Lea...I have given thought since last we talked and feel like I should read along with the group. And thanks for your words of encouragement.

Okay, this is me at the local library checking in. The only book that I found was Alphabet of Thorn by McKillip. So, I choose that book, not only because it is the only one available but because it sounds quite interesting.
Thanks for the suggestions Lea! |

Lol wow yea i checked the book lists for the city library and all they have is the thorn book by McKillip and the le morte d'avalon by king. they didnt have the last one. I wont have a chance to go to the library though until this weekend but looking at the descriptions of each i'll put my vote in for McKillip and the alphabet of thorn. I tend to be REALLY picky about avalon/king arthur stories. I know a lot of writers write about it and not many do a good job. |
